Welcome to Generación Floreciente
"Doing whatever it takes for Hispanic youth to flourish."
- Huge achievement gaps exist between Hispanic students and
white students-Reading and math scores, number of students in
Special Education, number of students in Extended Learning Programs
(Gifted), graduation rates, number attending college, number with
college degrees.
-
If these gaps are not addressed, not only will Hispanic youth not
have the opportunity to achieve their full potential, but our future
economy and social fabric will be negatively affected.
-
All stakeholders (students, parents, educators, policy makers, community
leaders and members, church leaders, education leaders, university leaders
and professors) need to be involved and committed to changing this scenario.
-
Programs, policies, and procedures based on true, correct principles that
"hack away at the roots" of the issue need to be implemented.
-
Programs, policies, and procedures proven to be effective with Hispanic
youth have been implemented in other states and can be replicated in Utah.
-
Generación Floreciente, founded by Barbara Lovejoy, is a non profit that
is committed to doing whatever it takes for Hispanic youth to flourish,
including, but not limited to, the following:
- Educate the stakeholders on effective programs, policies, procedures through presentations, weekly articles in Mundo Hispano (a Hispanic newspaper), media interviews.
- Implement programs such as the Hispanic Mother/Daughter Program for 6th grade girls and the Lovejoy’s Libros Program.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
It is with pleasure that I recommend Barbara Lovejoy as an advocate
for meeting the needs of the Hispanic youth. Barbara has given
several presentations to our Head Start teachers on language
acquisition and how to address the needs of the children that are
beginning to acquire a second language while preserving their first
language. Barbara has addressed the critical connection between
home and school. We just hosted the Spanish Spelling Bee promoted
by Barbara which was a great success.
Sincerely,
